History

JSC Samotlorneftegaz is one of Rosneft's key production enterprises in Western Siberia. It is developing the Samotlorskoye field. It was established in March 1999 as a result of reorganization of JSC Nizhnevartovskneftegaz.

The Samotlorskoye field is located in the Nizhnevartovsk district of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District-Yugra of the Tyumen Region,15-60 km to the north and northeast of Nizhnevartovsk. It is one of the largest oil fields in Russia and the world.

The main activities of JSC Samotlorneftegaz, which owns 9 license areas, are exploration and development of oil and gas fields, drilling of parametric, prospecting, exploration and production wells, production, preparation, processing, transportation and sale of hydrocarbon raw materials, development of oil and gas fields.

The area of a licensed site of Samotlor developed by Samotlorneftegaz is 2,516.9 square m. The field has 9,620 production and 4,890 injection wells equipped with the latest high-tech equipment. The length of oil pipelines is 5,911 km. An extensive network of hard-surfaced roads with a total length of 1,923 km is laid throughout the field.

The Samotlorskoye field was discovered in 1965; it was put into commercial development in 1969. Industrial oil and gas potential was found in 18 productive reservoirs associated with the Jurassic and Cretaceous systems, lying at depths from 1600 to 2500 meters. Initial production rate of wells is 47-1200—200 t/d.

In 1981, a first billion ton of oil was extracted at the field. In 1986, a second billion ton of oil was produced. The peak of oil production (about 150 million tons per year) was at the beginning of the 1980s; due to intensive production in these years, the reservoirs began to water out and oil production fell sharply. In 1996, 21.56 million tons of oil were produced. In the 21st century, due to the use of modern methods of oil production intensification, its production doubled. Over the years of the field's operation, over 20,899 wells were drilled, over 2.8 billion tons of oil was produced, more than 75% of the field's oil and gas production was taken away from it, and the reserve-to-production ratio is 47 years.

The Company is certified according to four international standards: ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, OHSAS 18001:2004, ISO 50001:2011.

At the beginning of 2019, the Samotlorskoe field became a site for pilot testing of polymer proppant developed by scientists of the Corporate Research Center of RN-CIR LLC (part of Rosneft's corporate research and design complex). The innovative material is designed to increase the efficiency of well production when using hydraulic fracturing technology (HFT).

In 2018, the Company began replicating a project to drill complex wells with a large vertical distance and a total bottom hole of more than 6 km. The new technologies enabled access to undeveloped oil reserves in the regional zones of the field.  In 2018, 40 wells were drilled in the regional zones of the field.

In 2018, for the first time in the history of JSC Samotlorneftegaz, a record-breaking figure in terms of pass volumes was achieved. By the end of the year, it amounted to 1,277 thousand meters.

2012-2017
year

In 2017, the State Duma passed a law on amendments to the Tax Code, according to which investment incentives in the form of annual reduction of mineral extraction tax for a period of 10 years are introduced for the Samotlorskoye field. The introduction of incentives for the development of the Samotlor field gave a new impetus to the development of one of the largest oil fields in the country.

In 2017, JSC Samotlorneftegaz started pilot operation of a drilling waste treatment landfill using the injection method. The productive capacity of the complex is more than 140,000 m3 of drilling cuttings per year.

In 2016, JSC Samotlorneftegaz set an industry record by drilling a 20-stage hydraulic fracturing of a well. Later, the positive results of the operation allowed to reach a new height by drilling a well with 29 stages of hydraulic fracturing.

2015 The Company is certified according to four international standards: ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, OHSAS 18001:2004, ISO 50001:2011.

In 2013, the company was the first in the domestic industry to implement the Smart Field system. It allows for optimal resource allocation and equipment selection, more efficient use of significant well stock and reduction of operating costs. The project provides for: remote management of oil production facilities, energy efficiency improvement, rational personnel management, round-the-clock use of unmanned aerial vehicles to control production facilities.

2013 - JSC Samotlorneftegaz is acquired by Rosneft.

2005-2011
year

In 2005, Samotlorneftegaz JSC received a certificate of compliance with labor protection (CCLP), and in 2011 it was certified for compliance with the requirements of international standards OHSAS 18001:2007, ISO 14001:2004, ISO 9001:2008.
