Rosneft increases the reliability of oil pipelines

08 September 2020

The experts of RN-Purneftegaz (Rosneft's producing asset) reduced the accident rate at infield pipelines by 35 per cent in five years (2015-2019).  High results were achieved due to complex measures including upgrading, repairs and continuous anticorrosion inhibition of pipelines.

Accident-free operation of production facilities is one of the priorities of the Rosneft-2022 strategy and a key objective for the Company in all areas of operation.  As one of the leaders of global energy industry, PAO Rosneft Oil Company supports advanced initiatives of the global community and introduces technologies related to protection and preservation of the environment.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are actively used at RN-Purneftegaz's fields in order to prevent loss of piping integrity and to monitor the situation. In the last three years UAVs were used to survey about 180,000 km of pipelines.

Total length of RN-Purneftegaz's pipelines amounts to about 2,000 km. Annual diagnostics and industrial safety expert review encompass no less than half of active stock.  Total volume of pipeline upgrades including replacement of outdated fragments, repairs and overhaul, reaches 5 per cent of total length. As part of implementing Rosneft's new massive programme "Increasing the reliability of pipelines in 2020-2025", RN-Purneftegaz envisions replacement of more than 400 km of pipelines in the next five years, which amount to 20 per cent of active stock.
